Thank you for visiting.
I don’t have a simple answer to the question, “So what do you do?” In my 20s, I was an academic, teaching and getting my PhD in Anthropology, doing fieldwork among Chinese diaspora communities in Southeast Asia. In my 30s, I applied my ethnographic and qualitative research background to a Silicon Valley career in consumer insights and UX research. In my 40s, I started moonlighting as a magazine writer, covering stories in my new home state of Hawaii. Now, at the start of my fifth decade, I’m writing poetry, fiction and personal essays, as well as running a design lab with my partner.
Everything I’ve done will always be who I am and “what I do.” And I’m grateful for it all.
I very happily split my time between San Francisco, which raised and shaped me, and the Big Island of Hawaii, where I can listen to locals talk story to my heart’s content.
